Here's what I've been working on for the past few days: the lovely Lynn Minmay from the show Macross.
Rather than the show, I much prefer the movie, Macross: Do You Remember Love? However, I'm not a huge huge fan of either, although I do appreciate them as they are classics that inspired a bunch of other things, including Macross Frontier, which also has characters I like.
No, more than anything, I like Minmay. I love her overall character design, her personality, and the songs she sings. I especially love how they showed many sides of her and her fame, as well as how her songs were able to save us all. I also felt her sadness for her loss of Hikaru. That was especially true for me when hearing this song, "Tenshi No Enogu," who's lyrics are what inspired me to do this piece in the first place. I also did a cover of that song, since I love it so much. You can view my version, here.
Moving on to the actual picture, I tried really hard to maintain the classic eighties style while still throwing in bits of my own flair. I can't decide if I did a good job on that or not.
In any case, it explains the watercolour-painted hair. And, though you can't really tell now that it's scanned, her skin is painted, too. The colours in her hair ended up much more pink than I had intended, which was especially so after being uploaded. I apologize for the ship, as I realize it is a pathetic excuse for a VF-1J.
I also had some interesting experiences with my liquid white-out working on this. Lesson learned for next time! xDD
But, yeah. As my wonderful watchers know, I've been in a bit of an artistic slump as of late, so I hope this picture I worked so hard on is a sign that that time is over.
Wish me luck!
On this piece I used watercolours, sharpie markers of two sizes, a white gel-pen, Prismacolor coloured pencils, and liquid white-out.
Comments, favourites, features, and especially deviWATCHes are greatly appreciated.
